John Hayes
Chief Executive, Axis Europe plc
John has over 30 years of experience in the construction industry, commencing his career as an apprentice bricklayer on leaving school. He has worked in various roles at all levels of management within the industry.
John’s business career began in 1991 and he has guided Axis to become a diverse, successful, values-based company with a strong community focus.
The majority of Axis' business is largely social housing maintenance, although they are also active in the commercial fabric maintenance and retail display markets.
The company currently employs close to 500 people. In keeping with company policy, 10% of Axis employees are apprentices or trainees.
Axis' turnover last year was over £60m.
John's commitment to putting something back into the local community is an ongoing passion he has instilled in the culture of Axis. This is something Business in the Community has recognised by awarding Axis the CommunityMark - a new national standard recognising excellence in community investment.
