Northern Foods - Fit4Life: Example of Excellence
Northern Foods Fit 4 Life employee engagement programme has positively improved employees health through free health checks and tailored Health at Work days resulting in a 15% reduction in sick pay costs and a 25% uptake in healthy food options. To embed the health awareness further Fit 4 Life also involves employee volunteering at local schools to educate young people about healthy eating.

Norse Commercial Services - Learning and Development Workplace Skills: Example of Excellence
Norse’s biggest challenge was overcoming resistance and the fear of training from staff, as well as generating the trust from managers. It was worth it. Their Training Academy is used by all twenty-three divisions of the business, training everyone from the cleaners to the CEO. A learning culture is truly embedded in the organisation and this has been a significant factor in securing new contracts worth £18m.

Lend Lease: Creating Industry-Wide Change: Example of Excellence 2010
Lend Lease is working towards the design and construction of zero carbon developments. Recognising the sector needed to progress, it developed an industry-wide sustainability standard for suppliers to ensure best practice in procurement across the industry. Over 730 are now signed up to the BuildingConfidence scheme. Additionally, Lend Lease helped to develop environmental standards for key construction materials in its supply chain, including timber and concrete.

Marshalls - Carbon Labelling and Reduction: Example of Excellence
Marshalls, the UK’s leading producer and supplier of hard landscaping products, used product innovation and marketing to reduce carbon emissions and encourage customers to make sustainable choices. It created and applied rigorous carbon footprinting to its products and reformulated the worst-performing, leading to carbon reductions of up to 39%. Over 2,000 products were carbon labelled and simple guides produced to explain labelling and greenwash.

InterfaceFLOR - Mission Zero: Example of Excellence 2010
InterfaceFLOR is a commercial flooring manufacturer. Tackling climate change through Mission Zero they aim to eliminate impact on the environment by 2020 through the redesign of processes and products, the use of new technologies, elimination of waste and harmful emissions while increasing the use of renewable materials and energy sources. So far results include a 34% reduction in net greenhouse gas emissions and energy use per carpet tile produced reduced by 44%.

Kingfisher plc: Spearheading sustainability and delivering value - Example of Excellence 2010
Kingfisher plc provides practical solutions to make sustainable living more affordable and accessible. The development of over 4,000 eco-products in the UK and 5,400 products in France have helped customers make their homes more sustainable. In the UK 1,800 B&Q employees have been trained to City & Guilds Level 2 in Retail Skills to enable them to offer advice to customer’s in-store. In 2009/10 sales of eco-products totalled £1.07billion.

United Utilities Plc - Sustainable Catchment Management (SCaMP): Example of Excellence
United Utilities’ Sustainable Catchment Management Programme (SCaMP) was the first initiative to restore and enhance water catchment and introduce more sustainable land management practices in upland farming areas. The programme has worked with tenant farmers to improve raw water quality and secure tenant farmers’ income in the North West as well as improve the condition of a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

Barclays & Guardian News Media - The Katine Partnership - It starts with a village: Example of Excellence
Using the Millennium Development Goals as a framework, Barclays is partnering The Guardian and specialist NGO AMREF to improve education, health, livelihoods, sanitation and community empowerment for 25,000 people in Katine, Uganda. The partnership has made significant impacts, increasing access to clean water from 42% of people in 2007 to 66%, and 17% more disabled children, orphans and girls enrolling at school.
