At the Awards for Excellence ceremony on 7 July at the Royal Albert Hall, United Utilities were awarded the Example of Excellence in the TATA Consultancy Services Marketplace Innovation Award category.

United Utilities has developed a revolutionary new technique (HIgh Rate Enzymic Hydrolysis) for the treatment of sludge, making wastewater safer for use as fertilizer and generating 40% more renewable energy in the form of biogas.
