Greggs Breakfast Club Programme - Gateshead

Led by Ken McMeikan, Greggs Chief Executive. This visit will showcase a simple, volunteer based model that is raising the well-being and educational attainment of primary school children in deprived areas

It will help delegates to see the potential to help many more children in deprived areas across the UK, by rolling out this model in partnership with other companies.

The Greggs Breakfast Club Programme provides free, nutritious breakfasts for primary school children in areas of particular social disadvantage. The supply of fresh bread and funding for cereals, spreads, fruit, yoghurt and milk has contributed to improved attendance, classroom performance and also strengthened the relationship between the schools and their local community. Delegates will also learn about how BITC replicated this model in Nottingham. “Cares for Kids” provides Breakfast Clubs for primary schools across the City of Nottingham. Businesses in Nottingham provide funding, payroll giving and offer volunteering opportunities to their employees at the Breakfast Clubs.
