Deloitte Employability Initiative
Since 2001, the Deloitte community investment team has been working with employers, training consultants, further education colleges and government to design and deliver a course that will provide young people with the skills, attitudes and behaviours they need to secure and sustain employment.
The Deloitte Employability Initiative is the firm’s award-winning flagship community investment project.
Employers have long complained that too many young people leave college without the employability skills they are looking for. The Deloitte employability course addresses this skills gap and has resulted in hundreds of young people leaving college and securing quality jobs with major employers.
A total of 211 additional teachers will have been trained by the end of June 2008. A further 24 teachers have been trained by Deloitte Employability Centres, but with places funded by the LDA or FE Colleges directly. Feedback from teachers attending train the trainer courses to date has shown 54% of delegates rating the programme as “Good” and 39% rating it as “Excellent”. More than 1,200 students are currently completing Deloitte Employability courses in 34 colleges across England. We are collecting data on qualification outcomes and student evaluations.
Teaching employability skills to students require specialist skills and the Deloitte Foundation has committed £2m of funding until 2011 to train a new generation of employability trainers who will teach the Deloitte employability course in colleges across the UK. This number of students directly benefiting from the training will be more than 40,000 over the 5 year period of the programme.
The Deloitte Employability Initiative has been recognised by several major awards: Business in the Community Awards for Excellence, the Lord Mayor of London’s Dragon Award and the National Training Awards.
