Property-led regeneration
The property and construction sectors have been at the forefront of environmental sustainability issues and more recently moved to address and integrate issues of social and economic sustainability. Members of the property industry develop, build, own and manage a significant proportion of the UK's real estate, primarily through commercial, retail and residential development, and play a pivotal role in realising community investment strategies.
The property industry involves a wide range of stakeholders including developers, investors, construction companies, house builders and a range of technical advisors including architects, engineers, planners and specialist consultants.
Recognising the increased expectations of occupiers, local communities and planners, our work with members has focused on aspects of planning policy and how investment can bring benefits to communities. Our work encourages senior sustainability managers to share information, insight and ideas and, where appropriate, to use Business in the Community's wide membership base to raise awareness across sectors and inspire action.
Forums for the property and construction sectors are led by a small group of leading members from each group facilitated by the Business Action on Economic Renewal Leadership Team. Issues that these are currently working on include:
- Under-served markets
- On-site renewables and sustainability in the construction sector
- Tools and indicators for measuring the socio-economic impact of property developments throughout their lifecycle
For more information on any of this work please contact a member of Business in the Community's economic renewal team.
