Strategy & Vision
Business in the Community's vision is that all cities and towns will have a growing number of businesses contributing to the health and wealth of their communities. This vision will be achieved through local employment, supporting local enterprise and tackling relevant social issues.
Leadership
The campaign's leadership is provided by the Business Action on Economic Renewal Leadership Team; a board of senior business people and key partner organisations who advise on the strategic direction of the campaign and act as champions for key projects.
How we work
Business in the Community's campaign for economic renewal focuses on specific regions or business sectors in which we provide support and advice on key social issues such as crime, health and skills development. We develop forums and channels for knowledge sharing, and undertake cutting-edge research. BITC also produces practical tools and guides for corporate responsibility practitioners.
The economic renewal campaign currently has three areas of focus:
- To increase business engagement with local partners through business brokerage.
- To promote responsible community investment and development in the property and construction sectors through our work on property-led regeneration, including our under-served markets, property and construction forums.
- To work with business to remove barriers to work by increasing employment opportunities for those living in the most disadvantaged neighbourhoods and other socially excluded groups. Our work in this area includes a focus on employability, social housing partnerships and unlocking talent.
The role of business in social and economic renewal
Business in the Community engages, inspires, supports and challenges businesses to understand the unique contribution that corporate responsibility makes to social issues. We continually develop briefing notes for our members and contribute actively to BITC's wider public policy work.
Our work guides businesses to invest, recruit, buy, sell and work collaboratively in a way that generates business benefits and makes economic and social impact in the community.
