Over 6,500 people supported by Ready for Work

Ready for Work is our national programme that engages business to support disadvantaged to support disadvantaged groups, particularly people who have experienced homelessness, into employment.

Business Action on Homelessness supports those people who have experienced homelessness to gain and sustain employment. We do this through the delivery of our programmes and a range of policy, research and campaigning initiatives. We believe that work is the best route out of homelessness and social exclusion and that businesses often overlook the talents of people with a homeless background.

What we're working on...

About the campaign

Business Action on Homelessness, launched in 1998, challenges companies to break down the barriers to employment for people who have experienced homelessness. The senior business leaders that make up our Leadership Team champion the need for businesses to support people from a homeless background. They also understand that businesses benefit from meeting this need. We have teams around the country dedicated to delivery of our campaign and programmes - contact us for more information.
About the issue

Homelessness doesn't exist in isolation. It is a result of and factor in a range of issues that can make finding work difficult without the right support. As homelessness in the UK rises, we continue to develop our policy and research to understand how business can best support people from a homeless background. Our case studies give powerful examples of how they are already doing this and highlight how businesses are benefiting from their work in this area too.
Our programmes

Born out of the Business Action on Homelessness campaign, Ready for Work is our flagship national programme that engages business to support disadvantaged groups, particularly people who have experienced homelessness, into employment.
Get Ready!, a new initiative, complements our Ready for Work programme by working with business to provide early opportunities for people who have experienced homelessness to build skills and confidence for employment.
Get Involved

We work with over 140 businesses and 280 referral agencies in 20 cities to support people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. This powerful, national network of supporters allow our programmes and campaign to achieve its impact. If you are a business looking to benefit from supporting on this agenda, or a referral agency working with people eligible for our programmes, get in touch with our national or local teams.
Related Campaigns and Initiatives

Business in the Community campaigns to support those furthest from the labour market into employment. We ask business to champion the need to address specific issues that put barriers in the way of people gaining employment. We do this through our activity on Reducing Re-offending and our RISE programme, helping care leavers into employment.
News

30% of Ready for Work participants have unspent convictions. And we know that disclosing in a positive way ensures that employers do not get distracted from the valuable contribution that (ex) offenders taking part in our programmes can make to their companies.
