Private Participation
Private Benchmarking allows companies to take part in the CR Index on a confidential basis and focuses on its value as an internal management tool. Private Benchmarking delivers the benefits of the CR Index with additional guidance, feedback and advice.
Eligibility
Private Benchmarking is available to all companies, who are not willing or ready to participate publicly.
Process and Timelines
Private participation is available all year and has no specific submission deadline which allows for the findings to feed into other CR reporting commitments.
Feedback Options

Option 1: Gap Analysis
This option provides a scores report which graphically displays your company’s management and performance scores across the corporate responsibility agenda in order to identify clear opportunities for improvement. This standard feedback includes a graphical display of how your company ranked against its sector peers and all those that completed the public benchmark.
Cost:
- BITC Members £ 3,990 (+ VAT)
- Non-members £ 6,990 (+ VAT)
Option 2: Management Report
In addition to the scores report, companies receive a narrative report, highlighting strengths, gaps and recommended actions. The report interprets your results and what they mean for your company and provides suggestions for improvement, including examples of best practice.

- BITC Members £7,990 (+ VAT)
- Non-members £ 14,490 (+ VAT)
Option 3: Bespoke Benchmarking
Global Portfolio Benchmarking The CR Index framework can be used to compare regional/ sub business units against each other or the group to allow group strategy to be informed by regional/divisional strengths and weaknesses. The aim is to initiate better cooperation between entities and group level coordination across the entire CR agenda. | Who is it for? This option is designed for large or multinational companies. | Environment Index - Private Benchmarking The Environment Index uses the CR Index as a tool to measure how companies integrate environmental elements within its core business practice. The results are being compared with sector peers, without the need of public disclosure. | Who is it for? This option is for businesses who are interested in using a framework of best practice to guide their approach to environmental management systems (EMS). |
Support
BITC offers additional support services during the self-assessment stage of benchmarking. Submission support can include:
- Help with determining the level of information needed for the submission
- Review and selection of relevant files to support the answers
- Data consolidation, to accommodate the structural changes within your company
- How to report data on the basis of the CR Index framework
- Clarification of questions and general support
