Sector support

Through The Prince's Mayday Network, Business in the Community is working with sectors to pool their efforts in tailored collaborative initiatives, providing the necessary support to take bold action on climate change.

Sector initiatives can take the form of a one-off event or a longer-term process and can be driven by ‘sector champions’ and industry associations.  Below is a list of current sector collaborations, some of which have been formed in association with Business in the Community and our partner organisations.

The insurance sector – ClimateWise Principles

ClimateWise is the insurance industry initiative through which members work individually and collectively to pro-actively reduce the societal and economic risks associated with climate change. Members include leading international brands from across the industry.

ClimateWise was launched in September 2007 and all members commit to principles in six key areas. These cover climate risk analysis, public policy, climate awareness amongst customers, investment strategies and the impact of their business operations. Members also commit to independent public reporting against all of these commitments.

Carbon Consensus - Property Development

The Carbon Consensus is a set of 5 principles developed by 11 organisations involved in major property development and carbon reduction in new buildings.

The Consensus provides an approach to thinking about carbon and energy in new construction which signatories will apply. It prioritises focusing on the carbon benefits and results, sharing experience between all parties, and developing baseline data and better reporting through open dialogue.

We welcome further signatories. If you would like to find out more, please contact Geoff Lane on geoff.lane@bitc.org.uk or call him on 020 7566 8724.
