Plough to Plate

The Plough to Plate report provides a comprehensive insight into the challenges of running a responsible food and drink business in the UK today.  The report highlights what industry is already doing to address these challenges, where the industry needs to continue to improve performance, and where the sector can better communicate existing good practice.   It also provides a framework to identify the challenges across the supply chain. Plough to Plate has collected almost 60 case studies and examples of best practice from across the industry (see case studies)

The Report has done a beautiful job of encapsulating everything that we’ve been trying to achieve in the business, bringing it all into one place, bringing all the different elements together”

Plough to Plate is a cross-industry group created in January 2006 to explore the corporate responsibility challenges facing food and drink companies in the UK. This group identified four areas of particular interest:

  • sustainable food and farming;
  • ethical supply chain management;
  • product supply;
  • marketing, diet and health.

The Plough to Plate report has gathered evidence from members of the public, educated observers from the media, City and government as well as industry representatives to gain an accurate and up-to-date assessment of the response of food and drink companies to these key issues.

The Plough to Plate steering group worked with Defra and the Food Industry Sustainability Strategy  (FISS) Champions Group for Corporate Responsibility. You can also read the  FISS Champions Report.

We are running regional workshops over the coming months which will enable companies to work with their supply chain on a chosen issue. These workshops will help inform the recommendations arising from the report research and findings. If you are interested in taking part, please email Victoria.Harris@bitc.org.uk or call on 020 7566 8756 to register your interest.
