Year of Volunteering 2011

2011 is the perfect opportunity for your company to initiate or enhance its employee volunteering activities.

Not only is 2011 the 10th anniversary of the UN International Year of Volunteers but the European Union has also designated 2011 as the European Year of Volunteering. These initiatives, which are conceptually linked together, aim to:

  • promote greater global recognition of the contribution of volunteerism to society
  • celebrate volunteer efforts
  • empower people and volunteer organisations
  • work towards the creation of an enabling environment for volunteering including a volunteering infrastructure in the EU.

ENGAGE - BITC in collaboration with 14 other volunteering networks formed the European Year of Volunteering Alliance whose lobbying of the European Union was instrumental in its decision to mark the year.  Now, BITC is calling on all its member companies to show their commitment to volunteering and engage in the 2011 celebrations.

The Year will provide BITC members with the opportunity to learn from each other’s employee volunteering programmes at a European and Global level, to showcase their programme to a wider audience and to encourage their employees to be even more active in the communities where they live and operate.

How you can get involved:
