  Responsible Business Essentials is a series of training sessions targeted at small businesses who want to know how becoming a more responsible business can help them evolve as a successful, profitable and sustainable organisation.

• Barclays, KPMG, Marks & Spencer, Marsh - Ready to Go and Ready for Work Programme

  In 2002 the 'Ready to Go' and 'Ready for Work' programme was launched by Business Action on Homelessness following research conducted by Bain & Company in 1998, which found that homelessness was seen by consumers as the second most important social issue that businesses should address. It was also recognised that there was a gap as to how businesses could get involved.

• Barclays: Climate Action Programme

  Through its Climate Action Programme set up to reduce its environmental impact, Barclays has introduced initiatives for both its business and its customers.

• Barclays PLC - Working with energy on climate change

  Barclays’ Climate Action Programme has given the company the structure to tackle climate change and access new markets.

• Barclays - Barclays Spaces for Sports

  This is a £30 million programme which will create 200 sustainable community sports sites and give 500,000 people the opportunity to benefit by the end of 2007.

  By considering the environmental impact of its products and services, Barclays PLC is accessing new markets and helping customers cut their carbon footprint.

  Barclays has pioneered new environmental products and services such as Barclays Capital's Emissions Trading Desk which is the largest intermediary in the carbon trading market.

• Barclays PLC - Crisis Changing Lives

  Changing Lives delivers an effective training and employment programme for homeless people, while also giving staff at Barclays valuable development opportunities.

• Barclays plc - Live Well Work Well Programme

  Barclays Africa recognised in the late 1990’s a growing HIV/AIDS epidemic as a serious threat to the business, its customers and its employees. The programme has now evolved through to a complete holistic approach – the ‘Live Well work well’ programme.

• Training the Trainers at Barclays

  Training the trainers - Barclays’ South West Training Team improve the employability of Bristol’s homeless people and their own skills

• Barclays & Guardian News Media - The Katine Partnership - It starts with a village: Example of Excellence

  Using the Millennium Development Goals as a framework, Barclays is partnering The Guardian and specialist NGO AMREF to improve education, health, livelihoods, sanitation and community empowerment for 25,000 people in Katine, Uganda. The partnership has made significant impacts, increasing access to clean water from 42% of people in 2007 to 66%, and 17% more disabled children, orphans and girls enrolling at school.
