Patrick Clarke has risen from an apprentice engineer to a seat on the Executive team of UK Power Networks.  He is currently Director of Network Operations with responsibility for keeping the lights on for about eight million homes and businesses in London, the East of England and South East.

UK Power Networks supports ex-offenders back into work through a range of links with Business in the Community.  The company supports City & Guilds streetworks excavation training for offenders approaching release from prison, has hosted a training day to show other businesses how to support ex-offenders back into employment, plus offers work experience placements.

The father of three has held a number of major roles within his community and his dedication to promoting diversity in the workplace was recognised in 2008 when he was given the Prince of Wales Ambassador for London award.  Patrick is married to Sonji who is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in London  They have three sons.

Community Work:
Patrick has placed a strong emphasis on community investment for over two decades.  Since 1984 he has held a number of major roles within his community including:

  • Special Police Constable based in Lambeth (joined in response to Brixton riots in 1984)
  • Appointed by the home office to the panel of lay visitors to police stations in Lambeth and eventually becoming the first vice-chair of the panel.
  • Director/Trustee and treasurer to a Local Housing Association
  • Many school governorships
  • Many presentations to school children to inspire them and show them that it is never too late to develop and be successful
  • Chairperson for Merlin
  • Executive Board Member of LCEBA (London Central Education Business Alliance)
  • Board Member of Race for Opportunity
  • Chairperson of YourStory charity
  • Co-Author of the book "Made in Britain" sold almost 10,000 copies

Qualifications and Awards:
Since 1990 Patrick decided that a managerial/leadership career was more appropriate to his skills and personal ambitions.  He decided to pursue a more general management qualification route, rather than a higher level technical qualification.

  • MCIP - Chartered Human Resources Practitioner
  • FRCA - Fellow of the Royal College of Arts
  • MBA - with distinction (majored in motivation of people)
  • Diploma in Management Studies - Post Graduate
  • Post Experience Diploma in Management
  • HNC Electrical Distribution Engineering
  • ONC Electrical Engineering
