New business support for clubs is billed to be a sporting success

Source: Cardiff

Sport.Cardiff has launched a pilot scheme in partnership with Business in the Community to offer local sports clubs ‘off-field’ support. The new initiative aims to assist clubs with issues such as marketing, governance, sponsorship and negotiating leases.

The partnership with Sport.Cardiff and BITC is a fantastic way to ensure local clubs are getting the correct support to ensure they run efficiently and successfully. Sport.Cardiff is dedicated to delivering excellent sport development provision to young people and children as well as nurturing grass roots sport across the city. The involvement from BITC will ensure that clubs can confidently manage themselves and gain the knowledge needed to grow and progress.

The support is in addition to the Sport.Cardiff expertise that clubs currently have access to which includes advice on event management, coach education, sport development and links between club and schools.

‘Sporting Success’ is a three tiered support programme which sources business experts to deliver mentoring for up to two years, workshops and the development of a toolkit accessible for all Cardiff based sports clubs.

The Hilton, Coca-cola and Barclays Bank are just a few of the businesses who have signed up for the scheme and during this time they will assist the clubs in tackling seven key issues including leadership skills, wider community issues, enterprise and employability and basic literacy and numeracy skills.

The workshops will include tutorials in making the most of websites and social media, marketing and working with the press. The online toolkit includes step by step guides from how to start a club to book keeping and finance.

Team challenges will also be set whereby business employees will volunteer their time to improve the condition and appearance of a sports club whether it be the changing rooms, club house or crowd stand.
