SuperValu Hits £1m Target for Big Bus
Independent SuperValu stores across Northern Ireland have reached a major fundraising milestone for the Action Cancer Big Bus screening and health promotion unit.
Action Cancer patron Nuala McKeever celebrates the £1m funding milestone with SuperValu Marketing Manager Briege McGinty, right, and Action Cancer’s Kerry Anderson.
A recent week-long fundraising blitz, during which customers were asked to donate loose change to the Big Bus, has brought the total amount raised by stores for the charity’s mobile cancer services to £1million since 2001.
The Action Cancer Big Bus was launched in
2006 by Gloria Hunniford, whose daughter Caron Keating died from breast cancer.
More than 26,000 people have used early detection, cancer prevention and
support services housed on the unit, at over 1,000 locations, including local
companies and community groups.
