BITC announces finalists for 2011 Wales Awards for Excellence

Business in the Community (BITC) has today announced the shortlist for the Wales Awards for Excellence 2011.

Sponsored by Wales & West Utilities, the Wales Awards for Excellence are a prestigious annual showcase of the Wales’ best responsible businesses in action.

This year, we have seen a great quality of entries from companies in Wales which tells me that businesses in Wales are working hard to incorporate responsible business in all they say and do.

Now in their 14th year, the Awards highlight the best examples of the positive impact businesses are having in the environment, amongst their employees, through their supply chains and in the local communities where they operate.

The finalists represent businesses of all shapes and sizes across the length and breadth of Wales, from those in construction, engineering and leisure to manufacturing, professional services and utilities.

Commenting on the shortlist, Simon Harris, Director for BITC Wales said:

“We congratulate all the companies who have made it through to the shortlist for Business in the Community’s Wales Awards for Excellence 2011.  This year, we have seen a great quality of entries from companies in Wales which tells me that businesses in Wales are working hard to incorporate responsible business in all they say and do.  We very much look forward to showcasing the best examples of responsible business in action at the Awards gala dinner next week.”

Amongst those making the grade for their commitment to corporate responsibility are Principality Building Society, GE Aviation, Wates Living Space, Arup, BT Wales, Capita Symonds, Derwen Construction, Working Links Wales, Cardiff Airport, South Wales Police, ScottishPower, Brother Industries (UK) Ltd, Magnox North, RCT Homes, Rhondda Housing, Costain, Kraft Foods Ltd, Elior UK and British Gas’s Energy Academy.

A handful of SME’s including Responsible Company of the Year 2010, energy and environmental consultancy, UES; Bluestone Resorts Ltd from Pembrokeshire; Derwen Constructions from Port Talbot; and the P&A Group from Mold also feature in the shortlist.

The winners will be announced next week at the Wales Awards for Excellence gala dinner, sponsored by Wales & West Utilities, at the SWALEC Stadium in Cardiff on Thursday 16 June 2011.
