Welsh Water staff ease the pressure on Santa’s workshop
Dwr Cymru Welsh Water employees have been giving Santa and his elves a helping hand - by collecting more than 100 presents for vulnerable children in south Wales.
This is the ninth year that staff at the company’s customer service centre in St Mellons and headquarters in Nelson have taken part in the Pocketful of Presents campaign. The campaign is run by Business in the Community Wales and sees staff donate presents to brighten up Christmas for underprivileged children in the area.

Faye Harris from Quakers Yard co-ordinated this year’s collection at St Mellons and said, “We collected around 50 gifts, which is really generous, given the current economic climate. The staff love getting involved in the campaign every year, it’s so rewarding to know we’ve put a smile on the face of so many local children.”
Another 64 presents were also donated by the staff at Welsh Water’s office in Nelson.
Presents from this year’s campaign support the charity Action for Children, which supports and speaks out for the most vulnerable children and young people in the UK and to other Welsh children’s charities.
Simon Harris, Director, Business in the Community in Wales added, “Yet again, we have had a tremendous response from staff at Welsh Water. Our Pocketful of Presents campaign is a simple and effective way that businesses can support our communities and make a difference to the children who need the most help this Christmas. These gifts will, I am sure, go a long way to brightening up Christmas Day for thousands of children in south Wales”.
50 companies across Wales have taken part in this year’s campaign and together donated almost 4000 presents for underprivileged children.
Welsh Water is a ‘not-for-profit company’ which has been owned by Glas Cymru since 2001. Welsh Water does not have shareholders, and any financial surpluses are reinvested in the business for the benefit of customers.
