Cares at Christmas in Leeds

In spite of the economic squeeze, staff from 21 companies across Leeds, Bradford and Calderdale entered into the spirit of Christmas by collecting over 4,000 presents for community organisations across the region.

The community groups, mainly based in areas of high deprivation, particularly asked for toys for children, and gifts for  families and the elderly. Companies more than rose to the occasion by providing a variety of gifts and more – including arranging Christmas parties or donating cash to enable them to happen, and also donating pantomime tickets for families and children.

Andy Walsh, Operations Manager at Sandale Community Centre said: "Thanks to all these companies donating presents and food, we could help many families have a better Christmas."

Matthew Newman, Supported Housing Team Leader, Leeds Federated Housing Ltd said: "Thanks again for all the gifts for children in temporary accommodation you and your colleagues gave to us.  The LEAP team gave them out in the days before Christmas and they were much appreciated by the children and their parents. It made a real difference to the lives of the homeless families that we support.  It was good to be able to spread a bit of Christmas cheer."
