Town Teams funding announced for High Streets
Business in the Community welcomes the funding from Government, announced at the weekend, for town centres. Grant Shapps, Minister at the Department for Communities and Local Government, has asked towns to establish their own “Town Teams” as suggested by Mary Portas in her recent High Streets Review Twelve winning towns will each receive £100,000 to implement their ideas.

Chief Executive of Business in the Community, Stephen Howard said, “I am delighted to see that the government intends to act on the recommendations of the Portas Review and that towns will be able to start putting these ideas in to practice straight away. At Business in the Community we are supporting our member companies to upskill their store and branch managers so they can look beyond their own stores to take a more active role in creating healthy and prosperous High Streets. We now have Business Connectors in 20 locations who provide a vital link between responsible local businesses and the needs of the wider community.”
Business in the Community launched its own study on high streets recently and continues to work with its members who are High Street tenants to help them improve the towns where they trade. More on Business in the Community's work in this area.
