Banking on Financial Know How
A high street Bank is working in partnership with Business in the Community and the Genesis Project to give young people lessons in financial management. Barclays is supporting Business in the Community to run a Financial Capability programme for 16-25 year olds across North West Wales.
Kathy BrownCommunity Investment Manager for WalesKathy Brown, Barclays Community Investment Manager for Wales said: “Barclays focuses its UK community investment on supporting financial capability projects through our Barclays Money Skills programme.
“We aim to empower young people with the knowledge to make better financial choices – ultimately helping to turn them into more capable and informed consumers.
“We are delighted to be working with Business in the Community in making a real and lasting difference to the young people of Anglesey.”
While lessons in finance might sound dry and rather dull, this three-day programme will be geared to making it fun and engaging for young people, with key financial messages being delivered through drama workshops by Theatr Clwyd.
The three-day Financial Capability programme will be run four times over the next two months, and it is expected that almost 100 young people in all will benefit from the programme.
Owen Evans, Director, Business in the Community Wales added: “Everyone needs to get to grips with finance and young people need financial know-how if they are to learn how to manage a budget, avoid getting into debt with credit cards, and to save for the future. With the credit crunch biting, being financially aware is ever more critical.
“We are working with a number of young people who could benefit hugely from this programme. Having some financial know how will help reduce the stress it can cause.”
