Holbeach Hurn Village Hall gets a facelift!
Refurbishment was completed in March 2009 on this small village hall, which has made a huge difference to its community. Now used for Yoga, Toddlers Group, dog training, a mobile gym, plus much more. The Committee’s aims of having a Village Hall of a standard that would be secure and a lasting facility for the whole community has finally been met.
Before the Hall was purchased, there was hardly any activity here; it was used very sparsely – we had to use tarpaulin in some areas to stop the rain coming in and had big portable heaters as there was no heating.Colleen Hewes Village Hall TreasurerWithout ProHelp, we would not have got started. There was the structural survey, the purchase of the hall and the refurbishment; we wouldn’t have even got off the ground unassisted.
Built in 1872 and used as a School until 1967, this building remained empty until it was used as a Village Hall from 1976. When the lease ran out, the building was in a poor state and rarely used. By 2004, the hall had to be closed for health and safety reasons and so a decision on its future had to be made. The Committee had 2 options to consider – purchase the hall and apply for funding to restore it to full use, or build a completely new facility on land which had been offered by the village green consortium.
The first step was to carry out a structural survey. The Committee applied to ProHelp for assistance and were put in touch with Smithers Purslow (Consulting Engineers & Surveyors), members of Lincolnshire ProHelp who provided the expertise free of charge.
Once the survey was complete, the Committee decided to go ahead with the purchase and applied to ProHelp for solicitors to act on their behalf. Again, their application was successful and they were assisted by ProHelp members Langleys.
After the building had been purchased, the Committee could apply for funding for help to refurbish the Hall, however required architects drawings in order to do so.... ProHelp delivered once again and were assigned member firm Steve Dunn Architects, who advised on the layout of the building and provided refurbishment proposal plans.
The result is a fantastic, bright and airy facility, enjoyed by the whole community.
