Social Responsibility week spreads message of 'giving back'

Knowsley Housing Trust (KHT) has held Social Responsibility Week that has been spreading the message about the importance of giving something back and how KHT goes about doing this.

“It is something we strongly believe in at KHT and we wanted to make our staff more aware of the support and opportunities KHT provides through the work we do in this area and how they can get involved.”

KHT Operational Director of Investment Steve Heverin said: “Social Responsibility is about realising that businesses have a responsibility to the societies that they serve.

“It is something we strongly believe in at KHT and we wanted to make our staff more aware of the support and opportunities KHT provides through the work we do in this area and how they can get involved.”

Each day throughout the week was themed around a different strand of KHT’s SR strategy, which includes People, Partnerships, Communities and Environment.

Events took place at KHT’s head office and at local offices and One Stop Shops in its neighbourhoods.

Staff were able to vote for KHT’s charity of the year, offer ideas and join the social committee, tell KHT if they are volunteering and if they would like to volunteer and donate to services such as Knowsley Foodbank which KHT also supports and find out about KHT Advantage’s reward scheme.

Staff also were able to get information on how to save energy and were be able to pick up free money saving aids such as Tyre gauges, Water hippo water saving devices and a TV power down device.

In December, KHT in partnership with KMBC and Knowsley Mutual credit union will be launching a discount card which will provide discounts at local retailers across the borough. Staff put their name down during SR week to receive one at launch. Staff also made ‘Pledges’ and KHT aims to get one for every single member of staff in the business (450). The Pledges show how staff are contributing to SR, Louise Croft Sheltered Scheme Manager pledged to “"I promise to always make people count. I will do this by looking for opportunities to fund raise. So far we have raised funds for help the heroes and the shoe box appeal, knitting club and exercise"

Steve added: “KHT is not just about providing homes. We are committed to improving lives and communities and there are many ways we can do this, from helping people maximise their household income with budget and benefit advice, to providing training or volunteering opportunities.”
