Seddon Property Services has kick-started an ambitious programme to give staff across the company a voice to help shape the future direction of the business.

The family-owned national painting and maintenance company held a two day conference to raise awareness among staff about corporate social responsibility and to find out their ideas to improve the effect the business has on the environment, marketplace, community and workplace.

More than 100 members of staff attended the event, held at Stratford- Upon-Avon.

Seddon Property Services is working closely with the charity Business In The Community (BITC) – whose President is HRH The Prince of Wales – to create a sustainable future.
Neil Hand, Joint Managing Director of Seddon Property Services, said: “The conference was the first step in an ongoing programme working with BITC to officially shape and build a policy that has been developed over four generations of the Seddon family business.

“We’ve always been a socially responsible business, but not been the best at communicating it.

“This conference has been key to us overcoming that. It was a bold step to take, particularly in the current economic climate, but we believe in the future successful companies will be those who are recognised as being responsible businesses.”

The conference included motivational speakers, workshops, discussion groups and an awards ceremony to celebrate the good works already achieved across the company.
Those present were also able to hear the experiences of another family-owned company, from guest speaker Sarah Miskell, Corporate Responsibility Director of Warburtons.

Kevin Rhone, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager at Seddon Property Services, said: “At the end of the conference, those present made a pledge to be more environmentally-friendly, enhance the communities in which they work, be supportive in the workplace and drive innovation and customer service across the business.

“Their ideas have now been taken forward and will form the basis of a strategy that will be at the heart of the company’s operations for years to come.”
