Veolia Water Announces Community Investment Fund Recipients
Veolia Water has today named the 39 local community groups and charitable organisations which will benefit from its new Community Investment Fund.
Guy ChalkleyVeolia Water Central Finance Director"Veolia Water is not only a global organisation but one which is at the heart of the community. Most of our staff live in the communities we serve, and have always supported local environmental projects and charitable organisations. They have seen for themselves the real and lasting difference this has made to their local communities."
The recipient organisations will benefit from individual grants ranging from £170 to £2,500, helping projects as diverse as providing camping equipment to local scout groups in Barnet, to supporting adult literacy classes in Surrey.
The recipients were selected by a Veolia Water staff committee, which awarded funds to organisations promoting child welfare and education; social inclusion; improving quality of life for the disadvantaged; and the natural environment.
Of the organisations which received funding, four received the highest ‘Gold’ award of up to £2,500:
- Hertford Road Community Association, in Stevenage, a local community centre which provides facilities for local and surrounding areas;
- Add-Vance in St Albans, which supports families of children with Autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder;
- A Vision of Britain, in North Weald in Essex, which organises activities to encourage people to achieve improved physical and mental wellbeing; and
- Theatre Resource in Ongar, Essex, which works with disabled and socially excluded people offering learning opportunities in creative industries.
Vera Fegan, Manager of Hertford Road Community Association, said:
”We are delighted to receive this grant. We are a local community centre used by young, old and the disabled and this funding will allow us to provide wheelchair access to our play area.”
Anne Ross, Group Co-ordinator of Add-Vance, said:
“This funding means we can provide a telephone help line for at least a year so parents of children with Autism or ADHD can keep in touch and call for support when they need it. Our thanks to Veolia Water for this lifeline.”
The Fund made 15 bronze awards (grants up to £500), 20 silver awards (up to £1000) and four Gold awards (up to £2,500)
A new round of applications will be invited in 2011 via the website www.veoliawater.co.uk/communityfund
