In 2006, Aggregate Industries UK achived its 12.5% CO2 per tonne reduction target 3 years ahead of schedule and reported the setting of a renewed target of 20% per tonne by 2012.

The Group has continued with its emphasis on health and safety at work and it is pleasing to report that the UK has achieved the target set in 2001 of a 50% reduction in the rate of incidents by 2005. In line with Holcim OH&S improvement has been set at 30% year on year improvement.  In the US, 2007 saw the creation of the new position of CSR Advisor to provide focus for community based activities and corporate network development.

The Group is involved in the setting of industry-wide targets and is continuing to introduce new initiatives aimed at the ongoing reduction of injuries at work.

The Group takes very seriously its responsibilities in this area and is particularly pleased to report that in 2007 the Group achieved Silver category with 87% and a top 100 listing in "Companies that Count", a corporate responsibility index produced by Business in the Community.

In November 2006, Aggregate Industries UK was awarded "Most Innovative Organisation" by BSI as part of the 10th anniversary celebrations for ISO14001.  The awards were open to all orgnisations, both private and public sector, with certified environmental management systems.

As well as targeted reductions in CO2 emissions and programmes to reduce the environmental impact of our sites, the Group has begun to introduce life-cycle assessments of its products. By this means, builders and developers are able to compare the environmental soundness of different products.

In 2004, the Group published a Community Policy Statement, designed to improve their understanding of the needs and concerns of the communities in which they operate and enabling them to target their efforts.
