Over the last ten years Amec has transformed its business from a UK construction company to an international project management group.

For Amec, sustainability is a commitment to acting responsibly in all that it does, whilst taking into account the concerns of their stakeholders.

During 2005, it took greater steps towards fully embedding sustainability into its business. It refreshed its Guiding Principles which form the foundation of everything they do and how they behave, and introduced two new principles related to their employees. They also launched ‘Shaping AMEC – work sustainably ’ across the whole of AMEC, an initiative to encourage all employees to actively consider what they can contribute.

Each of their businesses are fully committed to developing their own AMEC Agenda 21 programmes of action, which are a series of targets to improve sustainability. Progress against all the objectives is reported to the corporate team on a regular basis.

  • AMEC was listed as the industry leader for the support services sector in both the Dow Jones World and Pan European sustainability index.
