HJ Banks develops land for a variety of uses including residential and commercial property, surface mining, renewable energy and waste management.

Banks’ approach to CR is operated under the banner of ‘Development with Care’, which recognizes that the company’s activities have the potential to make a significant impact on both the environment and local communities, and that it has a responsibility to  maximise environmental and community benefits, and to minimize adverse effects  from those activities.

It encompasses:

  • A set of guiding principles covering how Banks  interacts with people inside and outside the company.
  • A  dedicated Community Team working within the communities closest to its sites providing information to local people, encouraging a two way dialogue between local people and the specific project team, and identifying community projects that may benefit from its site-specific Community Benefits Funds. These funds are spent in the communities closest to the schemes they are relevant to.
  • Work with schools and colleges, including an education programme to assist teachers and young people in becoming more familiar with the world outside the classroom.
  • An environmental policy which includes  project-specific Environmental Management Plans setting out how the significant environmental aspects, such as noise, waste management and emissions to water or air are to be managed for a particular project.
