Top accolade for Manchester business leader at Awards for Excellence

Andrew Cornish, Managing Director of Manchester Airport, has been recognised for driving responsible business practice throughout the airport and leading activity to encourage education, skills development and the wider regeneration in the local area.

At a time of economic uncertainty, it requires exceptional people who can remain determined to keep responsible business behaviour at the heart of all they do. I am full of admiration.

He was recognised at the Business in the Community’s annual Awards for Excellence at a glittering celebration event in Liverpool on 12 June, which recognises the outstanding achievement and commitment of leaders and responsible businesses.

Business in the Community president HRH Prince Charles personally congratulated Andrew for his capacity and passion to promote the responsible business agenda and named him Ambassador for the North West in a video played at the awards ceremony.

Andrew’s leadership over the last few years has helped local people onto free short-term training courses to make the transition from unemployment into work and committing to make the airport carbon-neutral for energy use and vehicle fuel by 2015.

Manchester Airport also won the North West 14-19 Education and Skills Award sponsored by the Learning and Skills Council North West for its work in supporting education and training in the region.
