Member climate change consultation launched
Business in the Community is inviting all member companies to have their say on a draft paper which sets out the organisation’s position on the key issue of climate change.
The Climate Challenge’ paper sets out ten position statements under the headings of ‘climate change and responsible business’, ‘the role of markets’, and ‘the role of government’. It will inform the organisation’s approach to climate change now and in the future.
It has been developed by staff and endorsed by the Environment Leadership Team which is chaired by Philip Green, Chief Executive of United Utilities, and includes representatives from Alliance Boots, Barclays Plc, BT, EDF Energy, Marks & Spencer and J Sainsbury plc.
The consultation
Business in the Community is consulting member companies to ensure that ‘The Climate Challenge’ lays out a position that is challenging and around which a clear business consensus can be formed. The consultation will ask companies for specific comments on positions including mandatory measurement and disclosure of a company's greenhouse gas emissions, and the Carbon Reduction Commitment.
Taking part in the consultation
The Climate Challenge Consultation is now closed. The final version of the paper will be released in Decemeber 2008.
For further information on the paper, please contact Leah Davis on 0207 566 8678.
