Genesis Breads in Magherafelt have been commended for environmental excellence by ARENA Network NI.

 Utilising ARENA’s Green Dragon Environmental Management System, Genesis are driving down their negative impacts and building sustainable practices at the Aughrim Road plant.

“Genesis is very proud to have passed through the Green Dragon process and it should be seen as a mark of how seriously we take our environmental responsibilities that we have participated in such as thorough process."

Michael Schwartzentruber, Project Manager with the ARENA Network, the environmental arm of Business in the Community, explained; “Our Green Dragon Environmental System was developed by colleagues in Wales, hence the wonderful title.

 “Initially formatted to help small and medium enterprises, we have widened the scope of the project to include some of Northern Ireland’s largest employers.

 “The process is simple.  The ARENA Network team begin with a comprehensive environmental audit, and then work with the companies producing a step-by-step environmental improvement plan.

“What is important for companies to remember is that environmental action saves money and also enhances a company’s green credentials with tendering requirements.

 “I’d like to congratulate Genesis Breads for their forward thinking approach to green issues and I wish them all the best of luck for the future.”
