The companies who have been successful in achieving the prestigious Business in the Community big ticks were published today in the Financial Times. There have been 268 new entries resulting in 106 big ticks and another 107 re-accredited entries.

New this year is the BT Total Talent Award, recognising companies that are taking a strategic approach to recognising and developing talent and skills both within the workplace and the community. McDonald's is one of four companies that has received a big tick for this award.

Brussels faces legal action over tariffs

The US and Japan took legal action at the World Trade Organisation on Wednesday to force the European Union to scrap tariffs on high-technology goods. If successful, thousands of jobs in poorer EU countries would be under threat.  

 
 
Supermarkets failing to reduce packaging
The Guardian, p6

Supermarkets are falling behind local high street retailers and markets in reducing packaging waste, a survey has found. Up to 38% of food packaging in a typical supermarket shopping basket cannot be recycled, according to a report by the Local Government Association.
