ProHelp assists with Marketing & PR

Two local community centres in the heart of Nottingham came together in 2002 to create the Sneinton Community Project (SCP).  Since then, the SCP has co-ordinated and developed different activities to improve the quality of life for residents by encouraging them to get involved in social, training and volunteering opportunities.

As a result of the workshop we have gained a far better understanding of the media, how they operate and how to build links.  We got a handful of practical tips of the trade that we couldn’t have had from elsewhere.

SCP wanted to build greater awareness of its community events beyond the core of residents who regularly attend.  It had planned a new series of initiatives and events to be implemented over a period of 12 months, such as assertiveness training, a drama group and a community newsletter.

Pauliina Keinanen, SCP Community Development Worker, approached ProHelp for marketing and PR advice.  An initial meeting with ProHelp members Midas Marketing and SR Portfolio was held and SCP’s need to raise their profile was outlined.  Help was also required in updating and refreshing current marketing literature along with advice on how to deal with the local media in order to achieve greater coverage.

ProHelp agreed to run a practical PR and promotions workshop for SCP and some of its volunteers.  With experience in creating and managing promotional and PR campaigns, ProHelp members developed an afternoon’s session for the group to share best practice and provide some hints and tips.

The result of the workshop sessions meant the group are now able to customise their own publicity and event material.  They have an improved understanding of the media and have gained some valuable and practical experience on how to help improve media relations.
