Toyota Motor Manufacturing (UK) Ltd

Big Tick Winner Toyota encourages you to attend its Seminars on increasing quality, efficiency and profitability via  - A Lean Approach.

Toyota who produces the Avensis and Auris models at its Derbyshire plant, received two Big Tick awards for their commitment to Environmental Leadership and Eco-efficiency.

The leadership award was gained by proving that it could reduce its impact on the environment by introducing various measures at its Burnaston plant, which last year made 277,854 vehicles
Since the start of production in 1992, Toyota has reduced the amount of energy needed to produce its cars by more than 70%.

The amount of water used per vehicle has been reduced by more than 75%.

Emissions created in production have been cut by more than 70% and waste generated per vehicle by more than 60%.

Toyota demonstrated how all of its 4,800 employees receive environmental awareness training and are encouraged to improve environmental performance both at work and at home.

The company also showed how it was helping to inspire others to follow suit through initiatives such as its public visit programme, business benchmarking seminars and work with education groups, including the national Toyota Technology Challenge.

The second Big Tick award was made in the eco-efficiency category.

It was a re-accreditation of the award collected by the company last year for reducing water use at the Burnaston plant by introducing a waste-water recycling system.

The system, which recycles water used in the car-body painting process so it can be reused within the on-site boilers for steam generation, continues to reduce water use on-site by more than 100,000 tonnes per year.

In 2004, Toyota was awarded a Big Tick in recognition of achieving zero waste to landfill at Burnaston and its engine manufacturing site at Deeside, North Wales, making it the first UK car manufacturer to achieve such an environmental target.
