Jamie Martin
Managing Partner, Ward Hadaway
Having trained in London and qualified as a solicitor in 1980, Jamie returned to the North East to pursue his legal career. He joined Wheldon Houlsby and Scott and led that firm through a merger with Ward Hadaway in 1996 becoming Managing Partner of Ward Hadaway, one of the Top 100 law firms in the UK, in 1998.
Jamie specialises in defendant clinical negligence and has acted for the NHS in this respect for the last 20 years.
Jamie has been instrumental in championing all aspects of responsible business at Ward Hadaway, ensuring good business practices are adopted at all levels. The commitment to the ongoing training and development of staff to maintain and improve service excellence is reflected in the achievement of the ISO9001 Quality Standard and Investors in People accreditation. Ward Hadaway were the first law firm in the North of England to attain both standards.
Jamie led the firm in becoming members of Business in the Community and Cares and understands the importance of collaborative action to drive through change within a business and social context. Jamie has taken a great personal interest in Business in the Community’s unique education programme Back to Business, and has spent a considerable amount of time working with Newcastle school Burnside High. Raising aspirations, changing perceptions and providing positive role models for the pupils and teachers are just some of the ways Jamie is making a difference.
Encouraging teacher placements and work shadowing at Ward Hadaway, Jamie is a firm believer in alternative methods of training to support personal and professional development opportunities. Through his leadership, Ward Hadaway has established strong links with the local community.
