Mark Sweeney
Global Operations Director, Caterpillar Electric Power Division
Mark Sweeney is a native of Co. Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. He graduated from The Queens University of Belfast with a 1st Class Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1981 and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering in 1986.
His industrial career started with a marine engine company, Mercury Marine, based in Wisconsin USA where he spent almost 8 years in different engineering management roles. He returned to Northern Ireland in 1994 to join FG Wilson as Engineering Manager and progressed through different Senior Management roles. Mark was appointed Managing Director in 2002.
In 2004 FG Wilson was integrated into a newly formed Electric Power Division of Caterpillar. Mark was appointed Global Operations Director for the Division with responsibilities for the operational facilities in Northern Ireland, USA, China, Brazil and India.
Mark is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. He was President of the Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce from 2006 – 2008. He was awarded an OBE in the 2007 Queens Birthday Honours List for Services to Business and Commerce in Northern Ireland.
