Northern Ireland’s first ever CSR Week, 2-9 October

In today’s challenging economic climate, companies have to find innovative ways to set themselves apart from competitors by appealing directly to customers and their values.

This week provides an opportunity in the current, challenging business environment, to profile the good work being done by companies in Northern Ireland in addressing social responsibility issues.  It will also provide a platform to raise awareness of the impetus for responsible business practice and the potential benefits.

CSR Week will take place at the start of October, beginning on 2 October with an exclusive CEO ‘Audience with Stuart Rose’.  The following week will feature a range of events focused on the key social responsibility pillars of Workplace, Environment and Community.  An outline programme is below.

Sir Stuart Rose on Climate Change and Plan A, 2 October, Waterfront Hall, 12-2pm

In partnership with CBI, Chamber of Commerce and IoD

Climate Change is an unavoidable fact of the 21st century.  Recession, downturn, economic challenges – none of these change that fact and none of them mean that we can ignore climate change for a while hoping it will go away while we deal with ‘more pressing issues’.

Workplace Conference – Prosper through People, 6 October, W5, 9am -2 pm

The 9 to 5 culture of the 20th Century workplace has gone, with modern employers now offering flexibility over how, where and when people work, along with more opportunities to lead sustainable and healthy lives.

Seeing is Believing: Disadvantaged Youth in Deprived Areas, 8 October, Belfast, 8am-1pm

Investing in the youth of today is paramount to increasing future development on Northern Ireland plc. This visit will showcase some of the best initiatives in deprived areas to engage youth and build their confidence. Private sector involvement in some of these schemes could have lasting benefits for both parties.

Fix up Friday – Volunteering Action Day, 9 October, Province wide, all day event

Be one of hundreds of volunteers from businesses across Northern Ireland to give your time and skills on 9 October 2009. Volunteers will have the opportunity to work in schools and community organisations, helping a range of underprivileged and marginalised groups.
