Objective 2: Responsibility towards...our Planet

To inspire and support NI business to respond positively to the environment and climate change challenges.

Climate change is an inevitable truth and one which governments, corporations and individuals across the globe are tackling with varying levels of commitment. Environmental issues remain high on the boardroom agenda in Northern Ireland, not least because most companies now recognise that addressing these issues brings greater efficiencies, cost savings and competitiveness.

The work started by ARENA Network three years ago to target both businesses and communities with the challenge of improving sustainability remains valuable and relevant and will continue in this next strategy period.

The influence of the supply chain for spreading good environmental practice will be a focus in the coming period, particularly to engage SME’s. A partnership approach with the leading business organisations represented by ARENA Network – CBI; IoD; NI Chamber of Commerce; Federation of Small Business and Chartered Management Institute to name but a few, remains vital to address these challenges and realise the opportunities so that ARENA maintains its role as the leading environmental business organisation and meets the objectives laid out in this strategy.

The two main themes under Planet are:

  1. Creating sustainable business
  2. Building sustainable communities
