Advisory Case Study: International Community Programme Support - UBS

In 2006, UBS began the expansion of their community programme across Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and drew on BITC’s experience of working with countless companies in the same situation.

During the initial phase of our EMEA programme development, BITC International was instrumental in fostering the relationships required to launch our activities in France, Italy and South Africa. The success of those programme smoothed the way for engagement in many more countries. But BITC’s support did not stop there: the BITC International Team has continued to be an invaluable source of support in the on-going development of our programme in EMEA, not only in effecting partnerships which ensure our activities are strategic and consistent across the region but also in encouraging dialogue between the various countries so that the lessons learnt and innovative ideas generated are shared by our programme co-ordinators.

UBS and Business in the Community (BITC) have a longstanding relationship spanning over 25 years during which time, with BITC’s support, UBS has consistently been at the forefront of corporate community investment. In 2006, they began the expansion of their community programme across Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). The CSR360 Global Partner Network, the largest network of responsible business NGOs, convened by BITC, proved to be a valuable resource for providing helpful insights into key issues in their target region.

BITC supported the development of relationships in France, Italy and South Africa and provided on-going support for the development of the EMEA programme.

BITC helps companies define their business case for corporate responsibility based upon a model that encourages companies to measure and manage benefits in terms of a business case. Experience shows that membership benefits are sustained and significant added value received where the resources of BITC are applied to a company’s core operations.
