Our approach
The CR Index takes the form of an online survey where companies follow a self-assessment process intended to help them identify both the strengths in their management and performance, and the gaps where future progress can be made. Business in the Community believes that self-assessment is the starting point for action and improvement, but we independently validate submissions to ensure reliability and consistency.

About the CR Index
Developed in consultation with business leaders the first CR Index survey was launched in 2002. In addition to it being a public exercise in transparency the Index was created as a robust tool to help companies systematically measure, manage and integrate responsible business practice.
Benefits of Participation
Today, competitive and resilient organisations must understand and manage the very real risks and opportunities that social and environmental issues present and seek to integrate responsible business principles and practice throughout their operations and strategy. As such, the Index aims to challenge and support businesses on their collective journey towards a more sustainable future.
