Mosaic

Mosaic was founded by HRH The Prince of Wales and convened in November 2007 by Business in the Community to challenge the growing concern around the issues facing young Muslims living in deprived areas of Britain.

Today Mosaic operates nationally in London, West Midlands, East Midlands, Yorkshire, South East and the North West. Support is increasingly gathering internationally, with affiliate Mosaics in Bahrain and Qatar, and a range of interest elsewhere.

Mosaic's key priorities, as outlined by its founder, are twofold: firstly, creating opportunities for young people of all backgrounds who do not have them; and secondly creating opportunities for understanding between different people and groups.

Mosaic does this in three areas:-

• Enterprise - fostering an enterprising spirit
• Education - encouraging educational opportunities
• Understanding - connecting people to give new perspectives and understanding

Mosaic works on this by:-

• Stimulating greater levels of volunteering through a network of partners and, where appropriate, direct delivery;
• Nurturing and promoting talent in Muslim communities, providing positive role models to young Muslims and their peers in society; and,
• Promoting leadership, teamwork, and civic engagement based on addressing key social issues of social importance in the UK and beyond.

Initiatives 

Mosaic mentoring - mentors are paired with young Muslims aged 5 - 25 from deprived backgrounds, at primary and secondary school as well as supporting ex-offenders.

Mosaic Media Network - Muslims working within the media to engage communities and provide opportunities for young Muslims.

Mosaic Speakers Bureau - Muslim community representatives available for comment, participation and interviews at a variety of platforms.

Mosaic Talent Awards - to celebrate the successes and positive contributions of Muslims to British society.

Mosaic International Summit - an innovative two week leadership and enterprise programme bringing together Muslims from across the world to consider HRH The Prince of Wales' particular interests.
