The future of British food and farming

Sheep in the moors

The Prince’s Rural Action Programme looks for practical solutions to improve the prosperity and sustainability of British farming. Farming has shaped our countryside for over 2000 years, and is a major factor in the prosperity of rural communities and indeed the national economy. As well as providing a significant proportion of the food we consume, farming also delivers important environmental and cultural benefits through maintaining our landscapes.

What we're working on...

  • Talent and Skills

We are working with businesses and other key partners to develop the Work Inspiration in Agriculture campaign. In conjunction with the Royal Agricultural Society of England, we hope to address the talent gap in the agricultural sector by connecting with BITC's Work Experience into Work Inspiration campaign.

  • The Prince's Farmers Marketing Initiative

Rural Action has been helping livestock farmers in remote parts of England and Wales to be sustainable by finding farmers new routes to market and adding value to their products.

  • Energy from Waste

We are linking BITC members with key stakeholders to help unlock the potential of anaerobic digestion as a means of enabling rural income diversification and tackling climate change.

  • Let's get cooking

Business in the Community is helping to set up cooking clubs to inspire a new generation to cook and understand food.

  • Plough to Plate

The Plough to Plate Report provides thought leadership on a responsible approach to managing marketplace risks and challenges facing the food and drink sector.
