Anglian Water’s RiverCare project works in partnership with the environmental charity ENCAMS and the Environment Agency to engage local communities in protecting and enhancing the river environment.

Forty five RiverCare Groups comprising more than 1,000 regular volunteers operate across the Anglian Water region.  Each group is empowered to deliver local environmental improvements and each has its own success story.  Most groups start with regular litter picking then carry out suitable habitat improvement and wildlife surveys.

Since 2000, the RiverCare project has helped Anglian Water to form stronger links with its customers by helping local people, who often want to get involved, to make a difference to the quality of the local rivers.  The programme also serves to educate a greater audience about Anglian Water’s commitment to the environment.
