In 2004 Bentley introduced a Green Travel Plan to significantly reduce the number of single occupant vehicles being used for commuting to work. Our travel plan outlines the health and financial benefits to be gained by our Associates in making a step change in their usual mode of transport and allows them to make informed decisions. The Plan comprises many proactive initiatives and measurable benefits.
Where possible walking and cycling are promoted but for many car-sharing is the preferred option, with finding suitable share partners being made simpler by the use of our dedicated Liftshare system.
Bentley also addresses the issue of unnecessary Business Travel, with all business travel having to be pre-requested and authorised.Travel authorisation is only granted if electronic and video conferencing will not suffice.
Recommended travel within the UK is by rail, with the car being the last option. However if a car is required then preference is given to Diesel or low emission alternatives.
Air travel is sourced via airlines with clear environmental policies in place with over 40% being covered by Flybe.
Significant savings have been made both in reduced carbon emissions as well as a reduction in business travel costs. 2009 saw an estimated reduction in commuter mileage of 1,493,102 miles or the equivalent of 491.3 Tonnes of CO2 with a reduction in business travel reporting a saving of £1.5 million compared to the same period in 2008.
Bentley continues to look at ways to have a positive effect on the environment and in 2009 enounced that by 2012 all of Bentley's products will be able to run on E85 second generation Bio Fuel.
