The Ecoversity programme at the University of Bradford aims to make the institution as sustainable as possible in all the holistic aspects. Travel is a key element of the Ecoversity programme due to its effect on employee wellbeing, institutional and domestic carbon footprint.
The Story
Travel is a very significant environmental impact of the University of Bradford with the travel related carbon footprint for fleet, commuting and business travel roughly equating to the carbon footprint of the gas and electricity use at around 15,000 tonnes CO2 per annum. Staff Business Travel is a very large cost to the institution.
Since travel plan began at the University of Bradford in 2003, rates of single occupancy car use have dropped from 62-43% for staff and 21-14% for students. There have been associated rises in the use of more sustainable methods.
University demonstrates the awareness of the technology available and aims to make the institution as sustainable as possible, by cutting carbon emissions, costs and increasing wellbeing
