Camelot - Running The National Lottery with integrity (2009)

The P&G Responsible Marketing & Innovation

Camelot puts corporate responsibility at the heart of its business. Through a range of responsible play initiatives, it designs, promotes and sells National Lottery games to ensure they don’t target potentially vulnerable groups.

Processes

The company continues to set and maintain the highest standards of international player protection, including development of European and global standards. Camelot recently secured its third lottery Licence to run the National Lottery from 2009-2019.

Impact

  • The National Lottery is the sixth largest lottery in the world in terms of sales, but 66th in the world by per capita spend, highlighting the success of Camelot’s strategy to encourage many people to play but to spend relatively little.
  • Since it launched in 1994, over £23bn has been raised for the Good Causes, benefiting UK communities through more than 317,000 grants
  • A decline in calls to GamCare, the leading authority on gambling, with less than 0.5% calls relating to lotteries. The most recent Gambling Prevalence Study found that The National Lottery had the lowest impact on problem gambling figures
