RWEnpower Climate Cops

“It’s been fantastic from start to finish and is easily the best and most well organised school project I have ever been involved with. All the pupils developed so many skills and their confidence has really soared.’

RWE npower as a major UK energy company believes that it has a responsibility to be at the forefront of debate and lead on green issues. The Climate Cops programme enables npower to give young people the power to make a real difference, by educating, empowering and encouraging them to become agents of change in the green agenda.

Young Climate Cops

The Story

Through Climate Cops npower is able to talk to young people between four and fourteen in schools and at home to inspire them to inspire others to think about their responsibilities in reducing climate change. Through this npower reaches the heart of the local communities around its sites - touching a wide range of stakeholders from parents to teachers, councillors to shop keepers.

The Climate Cops programme objectives include;
 Make npower famous and add value to the brand
 Make a real and sustainable difference to the Environment and Education
 Engage with key stakeholders
 Make employees proud

These objectives are met through a comprehensive and dynamic programme that inspires young people to make a positive difference to the environment by showing them how to take action at home and in school. Alongside engaging the young people npower also offers schools free energy audits and in some cases physical improvements to school buildings, by working in close partnership with over 20 Local Authorities.

Following the Government’s National Framework for Sustainable Schools, focussing on ‘Children’ the programme is split into four areas;

 Climate Cops Academy events: 9-11 year-olds take part in highly interactive days about climate change and saving energy
 Climate Cops SOS competition: a search for the UK’s 100 most passionate ‘green-agers’. Together with Outward Bound npower created a life changing experience for the students
 www.npower.com/climatecops inspires pupils to do their bit for the environment through interactive games and downloadable activities
 No Power Hour campaigns encourage kids to switch off computers/TVs to spend an hour without power each day.

The programme also supports the other 3 areas of the framework – Curriculum, Campus and Community

In order to achieve the objectives and aims of Climate Cops the programme is resourced and supported across PR, marketing and community activity and has engaged 640 volunteers from across the organisation.
