The Story

Through its education partnerships Lend Lease aims to support young people developing their career awareness and providing guidance and training to create the next generation of skilled workers. This focuses strongly on preparing them for the world of work with the long term aim of creating a high quality pool of potential local employees.

In its work as part of the Local Education Partnerships in Birmingham and Lancashire Lend Lease’s Community Development Managers have worked with schools to draw up a bespoke programme of engagement focused on employability and raising attainment levels. These offer a menu of opportunities, including mentoring, apprenticeships and support with diplomas. Volunteers are sourced and brokered via the Community Development Managers and include not only Lend Lease staff but also employees from across its supply chain.

The impact of activities to both the business and the learning experience of the young people engaged are regularly collected via feedback surveys. This in turn is used to develop and shape projects going forward. Across all of Lend Lease’s projects they have secured support from Education Business Partnerships, in Birmingham this support translated to access to 35 Business Advisers working in the local schools.

The scope of Lend Lease’s Education Programme continues to grow and they have developed a ‘Community of Practice’ for education, which links together people working on education, employment and training across all their projects in the UK.
