redeem employs 89 people across the UK, Ireland, France and Spain and has a turnover of £3 million. Their core business is the recovery, reuse and recycling of used printer cartridges and mobile phones. They offer an environmental, social and economic solution to their customers’ recycling needs whereby local and national charities receive 70% of all profits from customised recycling appeals.

Processes

redeem recognise the impact their operations have on all stakeholders and are working to improve their contribution to sustainable development. The purposes and objectives of environmental, social and community involvement are defined through the use of accredited management processes. In addition to meeting requirements from accredited bodies, the company has environmental, equality and corporate social responsibility statements.

redeem's community programme has helped raise public awareness of the benefits of recycling and responsible environmental management, has protected natural resources by diverting product from landfill and has provided innovative new revenue streams to a number of charities and community organisations.

In addition the programme has helped the business become more inclusive of the surrounding community, aided staff awareness of local issues and enhanced corporate image while raising morale and building the 'feel good' factor that increases staff retention.

redeem have recently conducted a Sustainable Transport survey and are implementing measures to reduce the impact of travel on the environment and community, including car sharing, public transport, cycling and walking to work initiatives and have also converted 35% of the collection van fleet to LPG autogas.
