Allstate NI - Health and Well-being

Towers Perrin Healthy Workplaces Award

Allstate NI takes its responsibility to the health and well-being of its employees very seriously and prides itself as being an employer of choice. The company has been re-accredited by Investors in People on many occasions but continually seeks ways to improve employee health.

What they did

The biggest risk in the IT industry is musculoskeletal injuries so in an attempt to avoid injuries before they occur the company has regular employee education and awareness sessions. The company uses the services of a back specialist during these sessions to ensure employees receive the best possible advice.

Allstate NI has a range of flexible working options (such as flexible working hours and working from home) to ensure that any employee who has a health problem can be accommodated and continue to be a valuable asset to the company. The company will also pay for occupational health/ therapy assessments for employees.

Allstate regularly partner with local charities such as Action Cancer to provide a Health Promotion Service for employees. The company has also been very innovative in its approach and introduced, yoga, Pilates, weight watchers, circuit training and Salsa dancing classes in order to promote an active and healthy lifestyle.

Other measures that Allsate has introduced to improve employee health and well-being include a stress helpline, gym membership, a cycle to work programme and paid time off for bereavement.

A vital element of Allstate’s health and well-being strategy is subsidized lifestyle evaluations where employees get their blood pressure and cholesterol checked.
